Life has certainly been very different the last few weeks due to the ‘C’ word.  Challenging us all at varying degrees.  At Party Fever, since we closed our doors on 23rd March, it has meant furloughing all our staff. Saying ‘cheerio for a while, stay safe and hope to see you soon’, was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do as a boss.  We were all so uncertain of what the future held for us.  I was unable to reassure and allay any of my team’s anxieties.  But, whatever your politics may be, the Government has been true to its word and thankfully our staff are being looked after.

One Million Bubbles

There was much heated debate within the Party industry.  Some home based balloon artists and online retailers felt it was OK to carry on and justified their continuation to trade.  Party Fever could have switched to online retailing too but at that time, as lovely as it is to receive a bubbly bunch of balloons on your birthday, I felt we were not essential.  Neither was the trip to the post office, the doorstep deliveries, a visit to the petrol station,  another half dozen drivers delivering our supplies……I could go on.  I’m sure you get the point.  So it was decided that the right thing for Party Fever, at the start of the lockdown period, was to do our bit, help flatten the curve and halt all trading.

I kept busy being a balloon geek.  Watched an online, 120 hour non-stop, live World Balloon Convention (which should have happened in Milan) and took part in a worldwide ‘Million Bubbles‘ event.  An initiative to get Balloon Professionals around the world to create something joyful in their neighbourhood.

Keep Calm & Carry On

Last week ol’ Bozzer gave us an ever so slightly different directive.  We’ve interpreted as; If you can trade whilst adhering to social distancing, then do so.  With the ‘R’ rate below 1, I felt this was our signal to start getting back to normal.  We are still not allowed to open our store to the public but we can use it as a collection point and make home deliveries.

So that’s what we’re doing.  For now, it’s just little ol’ me holding the fort.  So please be patient.  I’m not as fast as I was in my youth, not quite as adept at multitasking and the grey matter gets a bit foggy at times 🙂 although that could be the gin (hic!)  The rest of the Party Fever team will be joining me soon.

It’s How We Roll

We will man the store between 11 – 12, Monday to Saturday for collections.  You must pre book as we are prohibited from allowing anyone in store at the moment.  Orders will be prepared and payments made prior to collection by either ordering online or by phone.  That leaves mornings and afternoons free for contactless doorstep deliveries to our lovely Harrogate based customers.

We’re offering deliveries to postcode areas HG1, HG2, HG3, HG5 and LS22.  Orders over £25 are delivered FREE.  Under and we ask a small fee of £5 to cover costs.  So those of you having to completely isolate can still celebrate your birthdays and support one of you local independants.  We’ve put together some fabulous balloon packages and packs of party essentials to make a Birthday Tea,  or BBQ a little bit more special.  Adding just a touch of sparkle!

We’re featuring the most popular colour themes online, Rose Gold, Sapphire Blue, Hot Pink, Silver and Rainbow with more coming soon.

On top of all that we’re getting the store ready for reopening.  A lick of paint here and there to smarten us up and a deep clean. We’ve moved some fixtures around so we can operate a one way system.  We’ll be installing counter shields and limiting the amount of people allowed in at one time to keep team and customers safe.

Have you got an occasion coming up soon you want to make memorable? Even though you’ve had to ditch your original plans it can still be made special.  Take a look at Party Fever’s website for some ideas.  If you can’t find what you’re looking for there’s a whole host of ways to get in touch.  Old fashioned telephone 01423 528900, Google, Facebook and Instagram direct messages and there’s also a handy little chat box in the corner of the website.

Hope to see you very soon.  Stay safe and don’t forget to have fun!
